Serious Threat Pests
The Bark Scorpion
Native to Arizona, the Bark Scorpion is the most venomous scorpion in North America. With two large pincers and a curved, segmented tail tipped with a stinger, the Bark scorpion can sometimes be found in shoes and homes, especially near desert areas.
Their sting can cause severe pain, numbness, vomiting and can be life Threatening for children, pets or immunocompromised individuals.
Scorpions in general are venomous and need immediate professional attention.
Termites
The most financially devastating pest a homeowner can face is a Termite. They operate silently inside wood and soil, causing damage long before it’s visible.
They are found in and around wood, structural lumber, tree stumps, wood mulch and soil beneath slabs. Arizona specifically has both subterranean and dry wood termite species.
They have no direct physical threat, however they can compromise the structural integrity of beams, floors and walls.
Rodents
A serious health and property threat, rodents chew through wiring, spread diseases and contaminate food, often going undetected for months. Two specific types of rodents often found in homes are house mice and roof rats.
There is a significant health risk as they transmit diseases like hantavirus, leptospirosis, salmonella and other diseases through urine, droppings and bites.
Bee Colonies
Active Bee colonies in walls are a genuine emergency, requiring immediate professional removal to protect your family. Established colonies in wall voids, attic spaces, chimneys, tree cavities, and other enclosed stuctures is where you’ll find them.
They defend with extreme aggression, swarming in massive numbers. Mass stinging events can be fatal even to non-allergic individuals.
Due to the size of their colonies, they can weigh over 100lbs. Abandoned comb melts, causing moisture damage, staining and attracting secondary pests.
Mosquitoes
The world’s deadliest disease vector, mosquitoes can transmit the West Nile virus and dramatically reduce outdoor quality of life. They have no structural damage, but their presence significantly reduces outdoor usability of the property.
The West Nile virus, transmitted by mosquitoes, can cause severe neurological illness and death. Bites cause intense itching and allergic reactive in many people.
They breed in any form of standing water. So bird baths, clogged gutters, tarps, tires, irrigation pond and even smaller water accumulations.
Pigeons
A health and property risk, pigeon droppings corrode surfaces, block drainage systems and carry over 60 documented pathogens. Found on rooftops, ledges, under solar panels, bridge girders, warehouses and abandoned buildings.
Their dropping carry over 60 documented diseases including histoplasmosis and cryptococcosis. Their dried droppings become airborne and present a respiratory hazard.
Their droppings are also highly acidic, corroding metal, stone, and painted surfaces. Nesting material blocks gutters, drains and HVAC systems.
